For those who enjoy reading endlessly about Rape.

This book... I can't even. There were so many times I just wanted to quit, but I had this crazy little idea in my head that it would get better. I'll not be making that mistake again.

The most important thing you should know about this little gem is that I don't think I've ever read a story where rape is mentioned more, or a character is nearly raped in such excess. Seriously, it made me throw s***. I'll break this down for you, seeing as I marked almost every occurrence. You may also need to get a friend because you will surely run out of fingers and toes if you're counting along at home!

Christina is kidnapped for leverage against her family by Michael, a mercenary for a secret organization of fellow mercenaries called the IMA. He has her for about a month or two and threatens to rape or considers raping her no less than 5 times.

Then in a game of politics, another rival mercenary steals her away from Michael and threatens to rape her about 3 or 4 times.

Michael comes to get her back because, gosh!, he maybe has feelings for her, and they both get held captive. He then intimidates her into thinking he might possibly rape her 2 more times to get her to follow his plans to keep them alive. While both are captive, aforementioned rival mercenary threatens her with rape twice as well, but see, the difference is he means it!

Up to this point, poor Christina has been appalled or terrified with these rape threats/attempts. However, upon their escape from a prison island, she strikes a deal with Michael that if he helps save her parents from the same prison, she will give him what he wants... her body. They free her parents and escape on a boat.

Whilst traveling the coast by said boat, Michael decides it's time for her to settle the deal, but Christina is appalled and refuses. That night, he gets in her bed, and although she doesn't want to because she is all confused about her feelings for Michael, she doesn't say no, and let's him take her virginity. She does cry during the whole thing and call him a monster afterwards, though.

They get to his apartment in Seattle, and there is a lot of do I/don't I have feelings for him/her, as well as a few more shady scenarios of him almost forcing himself on her because he just can't resist her. But see, he LOVES HER now. (At this point I'm banging my head against a wall repeatedly)

But, surprise! The rival mercenary has taken over the IMA and takes Christina, making Michael come get his one true love. While waiting for Micheal to arrive, rival mercenary threatens to rape her a handful of times, and cuts her clothes/her and is on top of her bleeding body when Michael arrives. Oh the horror Micheal feels not knowing if the rival mercenary raped his Christina!!!

Rival mercenary lets them both go under the condition that Michael works for him now. Michael cleans her wounds and then leaves in the morning. The one person he trusts in the whole world shows up to give Christina Micheal's goodbye letter (two sentences) and takes her to find her parents. Christina maybe-possibly loves Micheal back now. THE END!

worth the price and then some

Ok I sat on this review for a few days because I have a tendency to look back a few days later and think gosh that book wasn't as great as I thought or on rare occasions better than I originally thought. Cloak and Dagger is turning out to be one of those rare occasions where I'm like "man I really loved that book" though I think I got my star rating correct first go. I just finished another book that I didn't particularly like and all I could think was gosh I miss Michael, maybe not the sanest feeling, but I mean seriously come on he's so freaking hott he could kidnap me any day. I hate sappy books so it was refreshing to read this after reading so many other bad books. I love that the author doesn't try to portray him as anything other than himself and that she didn't cut his (well you know) off and give them to Christina. Speaking of Christina, I did find her a bit annoying towards the end I mean come on you know you're in love with the guy just like we do so get over yourself but hey I still enjoyed her as a character. Overall good job Ms. Campbell on giving me the breath of fresh air I so desperately needed

Definitely NOT for everyone

C&D is a romantic thriller that is definitely NOT for everyone. If you like traditional sweet romances or heroes that deep down are basically good, moral, decent upstanding men...then look elsewhere. If however you enjoy dark, morally ambiguous heroes who have done some genuinely bad things but have enough of a soul or shred of conscience left that they are capable of redemption...then you just hit the Mother lode.

These are the type of stories that I enjoy the most and it is very hard to find the "real thing". In my quest I have been the victim of many a "bait and switch" scam where the hero turns out to have been wrongfully imprisoned, or actually NOT guilty of the bad reputation or working for some sort of government sanctioned agency for the good of national security which actually makes him the GOOD guy.

Not C&D. This is the real deal...FINALLY!!! The hero Michael, was recruited as a teenager from a gang and works for the IMA, which is described as "a group of mercenaries trained like soldiers with the moral code of assassins". Michael tortures people for information and then kills them and comes back covered in blood that isn't his own and the author shows this. The author also shows us that he has a shred of conscience left by contrasting his methods to those of his counterpart. Michael prefers to use "scare tactics and mild physical assault" he notes he tends to get "better results with the threat of torture rather than the actual act itself". Unlike his comrade Callaghan who has elevated torture and rape to an art form that brings him supreme satisfaction sexual and otherwise and leaves his captives so broken that they will tell him anything he wants to hear just to get him to stop.

C&D is the story of the beginning of Michael's redemption when he falls in love with his hostage and for the first time in his life experiences the desire to put someone else's life above his own. As a love story it is very realistically done, which means it is extremely slow to develop and by the end of the book Christina isn't at all sure about what she feels for him other than to know that she doesn't entirely still hate him. She has seen his vulnerability, she has seen the shred of conscience inside him spark, she is beginning to believe that he really does love her and she is beginning to have feelings for him - which are so hard for her to reconcile given that he has so many times done such very bad things, and given that some of those very bad things have been done to her.

I thought C&D was a thoroughly enjoyable story with very realistic relationship development. If there was not another installment I would have marked it down a star for cheating me of a HEA but I cannot wait to start Armed & Dangerous and I am over the moon to know that a 3rd installment is also promised. To the author...trilogies are overdone. You need to keep going!

I bought this book as amazon recommendation. I'd heard and read a lot about war and concentration camps especially Auscwitz The thing that surprised me about this camp is that it was not only Jewsish woman but I won't go too much into detail you HAVE to read this book. For anyone that says this never happened read these ladies stories. They had so much courage I couldn't read it some days as the stories and what they went through was horrible but thank you Sarah thank you for keeping their stories alive

Thorough history of "The Voice" & his musical career. Only drawbacks were my own unfamiliarity with some of the sidemen on Sinatra sessions/concerts & some of the more obscure songs. Sinatra fans, though, will enjoy it! (Who can tell me the song that the title of this review is from?)

About the Author
Research and teaching interests involve financial and managerial accounting. He and Professor Ross L. Watts received American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Awards in 1979 and 1980 for their joint papers. He received the American Accounting Association award for Seminal Contribution to Accounting Literature in 2004. He was the 1978 winner of the Competitive Manuscript Award, sponsored by the American Accounting Association, for his paper, "The Costs and Benefits of Cost Allocation." His research, which has come to be called "positive theories of accounting," seeks to understand the costs and benefits of various accounting procedures. He and Watts co-authored a book, Positive Accounting Theory, published by Prentice-Hall in 1986.

Research and teaching interests in the economics of organizations, corporate governance and compensation policy, corporate finance, franchising and banking. From 1989 to 1991, he was chairman of the Finance Department and research director at he University of Utah's Garn Institute of Finance. Professor Brickley was chairman of he Committee on MBA Programs from 1994-1997.

I did not find this book useful for me as I have had no prior economics ...

My Economics professor assigned this book for his course. I did not find this book useful for me as I have had no prior economics education prior to this MBA course. The graphs and equations were less than helpful, the book read more like a novel than an instructional textbook to help me learn. I ended up purchasing additional economics books and watching YouTube videos to understand the concepts from this textbook.

Not best textbook

Book acted more like a novel book in my opinion. The text book was confusing and hard to follow. It did offer great examples and relate to current and popular companies which helps to retain and relate information. Overall didn't feel it as as effective as other textbooks I've read in the past

History and Fiction

This book by Gardiner is a quick read. It is different from the Secret of the Serpent book in that this material is presented in a fictional format. The plus side to that is that the Secret of the Serpent book was somewhat stilted and hard to read straight through (like a reference guide). This Brotherhood book is a clean and fun read. At the end of the book Gardiner includes a timeline of important historical dates and events that can help spur on additional research if you are so inclinded.

I only had one pet peeve with this book and that was the errors in some of the writing. I found dozens of grammatical and spelling errors. I personally find it a bit annoying and was tempted to send my marked-up copy directly to Gardiner. Don't get me wrong, it is easy to read. My guess is that Gardiner's resources are somewhat limited and he did not have the opportunity to enlist the services of a professional editor or proofreader.

Very interesting story...

This book, based on research and also fiction, is a good read. It is a fast-paced mystery, and it draws you in. I kept holding my breath to see where the ending would take us...and it was worth the wait. I also enjoyed Mr. Gardiner's book "Secrets of the Serpent" and his dvd "Legend of the Serpent"--he has done other books I would like to read but I can only afford so much, especially when his "Grail" book is exorbitantly priced on Amazon. Oh well, maybe one day. But I enjoyed "Brotherhood of the Snake" and would buy it again, even in spite of the run-on sentences...at the beginning of the book he explains that some of his concepts made it where publishers wouldn't publish his book, so he had to make it fiction. I think there's a lot of truth to what Mr. Gardiner is forced to describe as just fiction, but only the author truly knows where the facts end and fiction begins...it's still a great read at any rate.

The basic story is cool but, the book needs refinement. Too many scenes, and a few characters seemed like they could have been expanded upon in better detail. Good basic plot though.

There are other textbooks that deal with all the topics in these books but very few provide such an accessible format. If you want to gently progress from Western medical acupuncture into a working knowledge of TCM, the second book on Basic Theories would be a good place to start. -- JAACP (The Journal of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists), Dr Val Hopwood, Course Director This is another book in the series International Acupuncture Textbooks and, as such, is very much up to standard. It is beautifully produced, carefully laid out and offers a very complete view of TCM diagnostics. It is also very reasonably priced... Combining practical instruction with helpfully detailed theory, this authoritative textbook is an excellent reference for students and practitioners at all levels. I would not hesitate to recommend it. It may take a while to assimilate but it really is written so well that any physiotherapist could make sense of it and begin to make their acupuncture treatments certainly more subtle and sophisticated but, most importantly, more effective. -- JAACP (The Journal of the Acupuncture Association fo Chartered Physiotherapists), Dr Val Hopwood, Course Director Combining practical instruction with detailed theory, this authoritative textbook, complied by the China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Center (CBIATC), under the editorial direction of leading Chinese clinicians Zhu Bing and Wang Hongcai, is an excellent reference for students and practitioners at all levels... Although modest in size, these texts are packed with information... in terms of portability and cost... they make themselves serious contenders for the college bags of students of Chinese medicine... In terms of visual presentation, other than the obligatory yin-yang and five-phase diagrams, assistance is limited to a few flow diagrams, which may disappoint more visually-orientated learners. This drawback is largely compensated for by the consistent use of clear tables that facilitate both learning and quick reference. Despite the drawback of the simplification inherent in such texts, some of the chapters are excellent. The chapter on emotions and elements in Basic Theories, for example, is particularly good, as is the chapter on bianzheng in the Diagnostic volume. The chapters on pulse and tongue are also well-written, and designed for quick navigation to allow mere seconds to access, for example, the description and significance of a tense pulse or a grey tongue coating. As such...These texts offer simple, portable, concise and well-structured information that is consistent with the TCM literature already available. On occasion, refreshingly original insights come from the teaching experience of the authors. Whilst this series does not necessarily offer an educational panacea, it may just offer what is missing on the market - an affordable, accurate and accessible series of texts written specifically for a Western mindset and understanding. If the rest of this series of text books are as good as the two reviewed here, (Diagnostic of Chinese Medicine and Basic Theories of Chinese Medicine), Singing Dragon Textbooks will definitely become part of the recommended reading of Chinese medicine courses; student in the early stages of their TCM studies o those that require a fresh angle or portable material for revision should certainly consider buying them. -- Journal of Chinese Medicine
