Jamie lost all his worldly possessions in the days following the earthquake, his self esteem, his quality work and eventually found himself homeless and without hope. Hear The Silence tells the story of life lessons and experiences that brought him back from the "dead", to the wonderful life he has today, and inspires others to celebrate with him. Hear The Silence is a fabulous informative book and should be required reading for everyone. Take this journey with Jamie through the wonder of being a gifted musician and living the rockstar lifestyle but also living with another all too common challenge.

We all know or are in our own way affected in varying degrees. Highly recommended!

OMG TYSM JAMIE! Received your book in the mail LATE Saturday afternoon Powerful, Encouraging ...you made me cry MAN... I tell ya the truth… the only reason I put it down is because my husband & I had a date Saturday night. I was not expecting a note from you in your own handwriting... I took the book, pressed it to my heart & shed a few tears. I’m totally in awe of you being just a regular guy with a big heart that possess supernatural abilities in music; playing it, teaching it and unknowingly reaching masses. It looks like you may have super powers in more areas than You KNOW!!! God topped the super with your natural. Your natural is amped up for more than your guitar…lol! Man there's been days where I just didn't want to be here... but I didn't check out… People think we're high when we're hyper, depressed or just straight having temporary melt downs.. geesh. This book right here is a life saver for people other than those diagnosed with PSTD! Music is the ultimate healer. Just like the Music… this book is a healer! Jamie's book Hear The Silence was written in the spirit of positive, loving energy that is Jamie Glaser! Jamie is a very, talented hard working musician. More importantly is the love he feels and shows for fellow human beings and for the animals he cares for with great tenderness. Jamie shares his story of his fight with mental illness, and he emerges a clear winner in every sense of the word. He gives his take on how to improve your life, not as proselytizing, but as loving advice from one who lived through some tough times. Jamie's book is a quick, fun read and everyone can take something from it. Thanks Jamie!

This book examines current issues of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in civil infrastructure.  The contents of this book are divided into two parts.  The first part engages topics related to durability and service life of FRP composites and how they contribute to sustainability.  The second part highlights implementation and applications of the FRP composites with an emphasis on bridge structures.  An introductory chapter provides an overview of FRP composites and its role in a sustainable built environment highlighting the issues of durability and service life followed by a current review of sustainability in infrastructure design.

About the Author

Ravi K. Jain is Dean, School of Engineering and Computer Science, University of the Pacific. Prior to this appointment, he has held research, faculty, and administrative positions at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the University of Cincinnati. He received degrees in civil engineering (BS, MSCE) from California State University. He holds a Ph.D. from Texas Tech University and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University. He has directed major research programs for the US department of Defense and has served as chairman of the Environmental Engineering Research Council, ASCE. He is a member of the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, a fellow of ASCE, and a fellow of AAAS. He has been a Littauer fellow at Harvard University and a fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge University. He has published 14 books, over 150 scholarly papers and technical reports, and has received many awards and honors including the US Army’s highest research award and was a recipient of the NSPE Founders Gold Medal and named Federal Engineering of the Year for 1989.

Luke Lee, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering and Computer Science, University of the Pacific, Stockton, California.  He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles, his M.S. in Structural Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of California, San Diego. He is well-known for his work on infrastructure renewal using fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, durability characterization of FRP composites, service life estimation, and structural health monitoring of civil infrastructure.  His prior appointments include teaching and industry positions at Louisiana Tech University (Ruston, Louisiana) and Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. (San Jose, CA).

R. Quentin Grafton is Professsor of Economics at the Crawford School of Economics and Government at the Australian National University. He is the author or editor of numerous books and many scholarly articles in the world's leading journals (such as Science). He currently serves as an Editor of the Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics and is a former Associate Editor of Marine Resource Economics.

Ray Hilborn is Professor of Fisheries Sciences at the University of Washington. He is also a member of the Royal Society of Canada.

Dale Squires is Professor of Economics at UC San Diego/Scripps. He is a highly cited NOAA fisheries economist.

The story of Father Ed Dowling, S.J., the Jesuit priest who served for twenty years as sponsor and spiritual guide to Bill Wilson, the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous.

An icy evening in December 1940 saw the first meeting of two extraordinary spiritual leaders. Father Ed said that the graces he received from meeting Bill Wilson were as great as those he had received from his ordination as a priest, and Bill in turn described encountering the Jesuit as being like a second conversion experience, where he could feel the transcendent presence of God filling the entire room with grace. The good priest taught Wilson about St. Ignatius Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises, about the eternal battle between good and evil which the Spanish saint described in that book, and explained the Jesuit understanding of the way we can use our deepest emotions to receive guidance from God while serving on that battlefield. The co-founder of the twelve step movement in turn supplied Father Ed with some of the most valuable tools he possessed for carrying out small group therapy on a wide range of different kinds of troubled people.

Together the two men discussed Poulain’s Graces of Interior Prayer and Bill’s attempts to make spiritual contact with both spooks and saints, and explored the world of LSD experiences and the teachings of the Catholic, Hindu, and Buddhist mystics in Aldous Huxley’s Perennial Philosophy.

About the Author
The author earned a doctorate in theology at Oxford University and had a long career teaching religion and history at the University of Virginia, Boston University, and Indiana University. In his early years, he was closely associated with the Catholic Nouvelle Théologie (New Theology) movement, and served for three years as the American representative for Éditions Beauchesne in Paris, the leading French theological publishing house. More recently, he has published books on the Oxford Group and its influence on Alcoholics Anonymous (Changed by Grace in 2006), on William E. Swegan as the major spokesman for the wing of early Alcoholics Anonymous which stressed the psychological side of the program (The Psychology of Alcoholism in 2011), and other topics in A.A. spirituality and history.
